Nosizwe Hude grew up in Khayelitsha, Cape Town and currently resides in Johannesburg. She is a mom and the Brand Lead for L’Oreal Professionnel and Kerastase. I met Nosi at Unilever, she joined a few months after me. She is outspoken, a natural born leader, very stylish, spiritual and kind.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL? A BRIEF SUMMARY OF YOUR ROLE
Nosi: I am responsible for crafting the growth strategy for L’Oreal Professionnel for both the general and afro markets for RSA. I also have to ensure that we maintain our premium credentials and drive share growth for the Kerastase Brand in RSA.
HOW HAS THIS PERIOD IMPACTED YOUR INDUSTRY?
Nosi: Our industry (beauty) has been one of the most impacted especially my division which is the Professional Product Division. 90% of our revenue comes from B2B (hair salons) so we rely on people visiting salons and getting their hair done professionally. During the lockdown, consumers could not visit hair salons for obvious reasons. We had no choice but to accelerate our e-commerce strategy especially for our retail products.
HOW HAS THE TRANSITION TO WORKING FROM HOME BEEN FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?
Nosi: Initially the transition didn’t impacted me very much because I haven’t been working for the past 11 months due to a fatal accident I was involved in on the 23rd of September 2019. I returned to work in September 2020 and it has been quite an adjustment. I have to balance working from home, being in a new role at work, maintaining my therapy sessions for my recovery from my accident and doctors’ visits that include physical exercise. My son has adjusted very well to home schooling and it has also given us an opportunity to get to know and understand each other better.
HOW DO YOU START YOUR DAY?
Nosi: I start off each day with my therapy home-program, followed by a healthy smoothie.
WHAT IS YOUR GO TO UNIFORM? (YOUR WORK FROM HOME DRESS CODE)
Nosi: I am living in active gear at the moment.
HOW DO YOU STAY FOCUSED AND MOTIVATED?
Nosi: Self-motivation is one of my key strengths. My daily activities are very structured, I have a daily to do list that helps to keep me in check. When fatigue kicks in, I usually go for a walk around my complex for a dos of fresh air.
HOW ARE YOU STAYING ACTIVE?
Nosi: I go for 5km walks in the park with my son.
HOW DO YOU UNWIND AT THE END OF THE DAY OR WEEK?
Nosi: I really enjoy cooking
HOW HAVE OTHER WOMEN SHOWED UP FOR YOU IN CORPORATE?
Nosi: I have had amazing female coaches/mentors and sponsors who have always encouraged me to be the best that I can be and that failure is not an option. They have also illustrated that it is possible to be a present mother and partner while kicking-ass at your job. All it takes is to build the right support network around you.
WHAT IS THE LAST TV SERIES THAT YOU BINGE-WATCHED? SHARE A BRIEF REVIEW
Nosi: Suits Season 9, I enjoyed watching kick-ass attorneys trying to save their law firm. In this particular season they illustrated the importance of family and demonstrated that they will go to the ends of the earth to keep their family safe and protected. (family = bloodlines and colleagues)
WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?
Beauty is seen by many as what pleases us aesthetically but for me it speaks to your interpersonal qualities that each and every one of us is born with. Authenticity speaks beauty to me.
